Fissure Sealant

All treatments available in every 'Instore Dental' practice.

Q: What is a fissure?

A: Because the chewing surfaces of your back teeth are not flat, sometimes food and bacteria can get trapped in the cracks and pits (called fissures).

Q: What is the best way to protect these areas of the mouth?

A: Dentists sometimes suggest that they should be covered with a tough plastic coating to protect them. These sealants act as a barrier in order to protect teeth from the harmful effects of certain bacteria.

Q: Who is eligible for the fissure sealant treatment?

A: This treatment is normally only given to children - especially when their brothers or sisters have tooth decay. The treatment is only performed on permanent teeth, and never milk teeth. The treatment has proven to be effective in protecting the teeth of young people and offers reliable, lasting results.
