Q: What are veneers?

A: Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made laminates that are fixed directly to the teeth. They are a great option for closing gaps, straightening crowded teeth, or disguising discoloured teeth. They are increasing in popularity as a highly-reliable and practical treatment which offers excellent long-term results.

Q: How natural-looking is this type of treatment?

A: The veneer is designed to look natural alongside the rest of your teeth. In fact, great care is taken by the dentist to ensure that the treatment is patient-specific and that the best outcome is produced.

Q: This sounds like a treatment that must be complicated to perform. What does it entail and how many visits to the dentists will be required?

A: The application of veneers is in fact a fairly simple procedure for the dentist, and one which can usually be completed within a couple of visits to the practice. As long as the correct preparation is carried out, the veneers treatment is one that, as a patient, you should find reasonably swift and straightforward.

Q: What is involved in the process of fitting veneers?

A: The dentist will remove a tiny amount of the tooth's surface so that when the veneer is applied it doesn't feel bulky. A mould of your mouth is also taken so that a technician can ensure your veneer will be comfortable for you. An impression is also taken that will match the size and shape of the rest of your teeth. On your second visit, the newly-made veneer will be stuck on with special glue.

Q: How is the colour of the veneer matched to that of my teeth so that it looks natural?

A: Veneers can be made out of the same material that makes white fillings. Your dentist will simply apply a small amount of acid to your tooth to make it a rougher surface and then gradually add layers of filling material to get the right look for you.
